Background:
Alphonse’s parents were talented knights in the Wyvernsteel guild. Together they wanted to raise their children to be a great knight like them. Their plan was to raise their son with the core values of a knight at an early age. Alphonse was expected to maintain his honourable lineage despite being a rogue at heart.
The pressure placed on him was insufferable, he knew incredibly well how much his family hated “dealing with those slippery bastards”. Alphonse knew that he had to keep his interests suppressed, however the art of staying hidden, walking softly and using underhanded tactics just came naturally for him.
He was often ostracized for these traits from the other members of his family. His cousin found sparring against him unfair. His older brother was aware of these tactics and often tried to expose Alphonse for the “sneaky little pest” that he was. He would often spar with Alphonse to draw out his underhanded tactics and gifted him a stealthy cloak and a parrying dagger.
Alphonse wasn’t amused by the gifts. He had tried to keep his hobby a secret as a child, he would often save up his money and indulge in his secret hobby, he would often buy lock picks, practice locks, magic scrolls featuring magic to keep one quiet. These objects were kept safely in the box underneath the loose floorboards. Every day in the late hours of the night, Alphonse would often sneak out to hone his new skills in solitude of night.
Once Alphonse honed his skills. He was able to successfully sneak out of the family estate, During his outings he learnt that the trails were soon approaching. A feeling of death washed over him as he fully understood the price of the trail. His heart sank, heart sank in remembrance, he knew many talented cousins and friends who competed in the trail, only to die like an insect.
Alphonse knew deep down that there was more to life than prestige and rank. He knew that those things were not throwing his life, talent and skill away. He wanted to be free from this needless bloodshed. The only thing holding him back was the expectations that his parents had for him.
His internal debate came to a climax as his parents came home early and found him in the family armoury, with lock picks, throwing daggers and opened locked strewn about the room. With their son practicing stealth attacks against a dummy. His parents were livid to find their flesh and blood practicing the style of thieves and heretics. Before Alphonse could even explain his case, he was kicked out of the estate.
Saddened, confused and enraged, Alphonse felt a whole flurry of emotions. It was hard to process what even happened. All of a sudden, he was found out, disowned and homeless. He had no contingency plan. Until a thought occurred to him, the Discarded Legion. From the rumours he heard that the Legion directly opposed the Wyvernsteels. He knew that he couldn’t meet with such an infamous group empty handed.
He devised a plan, Alphonse was going to break into the family estate and steal his own stuff. In the dead of night when the moon was high, he snuck into the family home with ease. He collected his saved up allowance, his weapons, his full plate armour and his locked box of treasures. Without even a sound, he left his family home. All he needed to do now was to find the Legion and make things right.
Days passed and Alphonse was no closer to finding the Discarded Legion. Before he could give up hope he was found by Emilia’s scouts. Alphonse explained his situation to them. The scouts relayed the information back to their leader.
Soon he joined the Discarded Legion’s guild as an apprentice thief. He was ecstatic to learn how real rogues moved, did recon and how they fought. It was a total change of pace. Over time, Alphonse began to miss the protection of his full plate and the joy of wielding a greatsword. For some missions he began to substitute the classic rogue armour for the unconventional full plate. Using his training as a knight and his training as a rogue, he was oddly effective in situations that required combat and finesse.
